Sam And Vel Johnson Recognized by Boy Scouts With Distinguished Citizens Award (April 10, 2008)

Rocky Mount, NC Sam Johnson, a Partner at Poyner & Spruill LLP, and his wife Vel Johnson received The Boy Scouts Distinguished Citizens Award at the Annual Award Dinner on April 8, 2008. This event is one of the premier fund-raising events in the Rocky Mount area.

The award was given to Sam and Vel “in recognition of their many years of outstanding dedication and leadership that have improved the quality of life for the people of Rocky Mount, NC.”

“What an honor to recognize Sam and Vel Johnson as the Rocky Mount Area Distinguished Citizens for 2008! There is not a cause in our area that they have not had a hand in improving. Their quiet and effective leadership has made a difference in everything they have touched. The Boy Scouts could not find better role models for integrity and service!” said Mike Hancock, Executive Vice President/ Restaurant Development for Boddie-Noell Enterprises, who chaired the event.

The Boy Scouts of America served more than 1,650 of the local Nash and Edgecombe youth in 2007.  The proceeds from the Award Dinner will help expand the program in 2008.
