Lisa practices in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation and professionalliability. She is the team leader of our Creditors' Rights and Bankruptcy practice group. Licensed in the federal and state courts in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, she practiced in Columbia, South Carolina and Roanoke, Virginia prior to returning home to North Carolina in 2002.

Representative Experience

  • Represents creditors in bankruptcy cases and appeals, tackling issues including cash collateral, lien challenges (including PACA), stay relief, adequate protection, valuation, asset sales, contested confirmation and adversary proceedings.
  • Counsels creditors filing involuntary bankruptcy petitions against elusive debtors.
  • Seeks appointment of receivers on behalf of creditors and pursues claims in assignments for the benefit of creditors.
  • Advises creditors in out-of-court workouts, including forbearance agreements, loan modifications, substitution of collateral, deeds in lieu of foreclosure and creditor compositions.
  • Pursues collection of secured and unsecured debts through collection lawsuits, judgment execution, claim and delivery, attachment, UCC sales and foreclosure.
  • Defends creditors against various lender liability claims, including preference and avoidance actions, fraudulent transfers, breach of fiduciary duty, violation of federal and state consumer protection laws.
  • Works with attorneys to avoid and defend against bankruptcy-related legal malpractice claims.
  • Represents federal student loan guarantor in bankruptcy cases where debtor seeks undue hardship discharge of student loan debt.
