Charlotte, NC – Paul Arena, a Partner in the Charlotte office of Poyner Spruill LLP, was recently appointed by the Charlotte City Council as an alternate member to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Zoning Board of Adjustment. Arena is one of seven current members of the Board, two of which are appointed by the Charlotte Mayor, five by the Charlotte City Council and one by the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners.
The duties of the Zoning Board of Adjustment include hearing and deciding appeals of decisions made by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Zoning Administrator and hearing and deciding petitions for variances under the City of Charlotte Zoning Ordinance.
Arena’s practice focuses on acquisition, disposition, financing, development, capitalization and leasing of real property. He represents lenders and borrowers in real estate loan transactions. He represents lenders, borrowers and investors in distressed real estate workouts, acquisitions and dispositions. His practice includes all aspects of real estate development. He advises real estate investors on the tax implications of real estate transactions, including conventional and reverse tax-deferred exchanges.
