03.09.2012

CHARLOTTE, NC - Jason James, partner at Poyner Spruill LLP, has been selected for the Charlotte Business Journal’s 19th Annual 40 Under 40 Awards.  This marks the third consecutive year an attorney from the firm’s Charlotte office has garnered the honor, which recognizes the brightest young professionals shaping the community in ways that have made the Charlotte region a better place to do business and live.

Jason James has a longstanding history with Poyner Spruill dating back to 2005 when he joined the firm as an attorney.  Within the firm, he is routinely involved in making strategic decisions that affect the direction of the Charlotte office and also devotes a significant amount of time to mentoring younger attorneys.  Jason was named partner with Poyner Spruill in 2009.

“With so many great leaders and organizations represented, the 40 Under 40 Awards illustrate Charlotte’s dynamic business landscape, and I’m very happy to be a part of it,” said James.  “Poyner Spruill attorneys have been presented with the award for three years in a row which truly exemplifies this firm’s strong reputation and tradition of great work and dedication to this community.”

James focuses his practice primarily in the areas of commercial and business tort litigation, construction litigation and commercial landlord and tenant litigation.  James brings experience in many disciplines to his representation of business clients.  He has litigated disputes involving complex commercial issues, including trade secrets violations and unfair and deceptive trade practice cases involving multi-million dollar claims.

“Jason has always set a great example for his colleagues with incredible leadership skills, and we’re proud that he’s been recognized with this award from the Charlotte Business Journal,” said Bo Dempster, Poyner Spruill’s managing partner.  “His diverse talents and strong work ethic have been extremely valuable to our clients and the community.”

James is an active member of the community, working on numerous bar committees and programs both at the local and state level.   He serves on the Board of Directors for ACE Mentor Program of Charlotte, which is an after school mentoring program for CMS students.  James also serves on the Steering Committee for Hands on Charlotte’s Service Juris Day.

Fellow Poyner Spruill partner Court Young was selected for the award last year, and litigation section co-chair Joshua B. Durham received the special honor in 2010.  Like James, both Young and Durham are based at the firm’s Charlotte office and were selected for their outstanding leadership skills and dedication to the firm and the Charlotte community.
