Poyner Spruill LLP partner Kelsey Mayo recently spoke at the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists’ Employee Benefits Symposium in New Orleans. She led a program titled “Handling Government Audits of Retirement Plans,” providing attendees with a roadmap for handling any government audit, including what to expect and how to avoid common pitfalls.
Mayo looked at audits conducted by the IRS, Department of Labor, and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
The three-day symposium is one of the largest gatherings of credentialed benefits professionals in the country. Those in attendance represent corporations, consulting firms, health care organizations, hospitals, banks, insurance companies, investment and administration firms, jointly trusteed and public employee benefit plans, law firms, and other organizations involved with employee benefits. There were 2½ days of keynote, breakout, and discussion sessions covering a variety of employee benefits topics, curated by your peers and presented by industry experts, providing actionable strategies and takeaways on the benefits issues and trends affecting your plan participants.
Mayo’s practice is based in Poyner Spruill’s Charlotte office and focuses on employee benefits and executive compensation. She has extensive experience working with governmental, nonprofit, and for-profit employers on all aspects of qualified and nonqualified plans, welfare benefit plans, fringe benefit plans, and executive compensation plans.
