Poyner Spruill LLP partner Kelsey Mayo recently co-hosted an ASPPA College of Pension Actuaries (ACOPA) informational webcast on litigation involving defined benefit plans. She teamed with Jim Holland, chief research actuary at Cheiron Inc. and formerly a long-time official at IRS, to discuss court decisions affecting DB plans and pension actuaries, including recent decisions challenging pension plan mortality tables.
The full webcast can be viewed on demand here.
In September 2008, the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries and the College of Pension Actuaries combined to form a semi-autonomous operating unit within ASPPA. ACOPA is the primary source of professional organizational support for pension actuaries, and is charged with carrying out ASPPA’s responsibilities as one of the recognized U.S.-based actuarial organizations.
Mayo is the lead employee benefits partner with Poyner Spruill, and she has extensive experience in virtually all aspects of qualified plans, welfare plans, fringe benefit plans and executive compensation arrangements. She volunteers with ASPPA’s Government Affairs Committee, serving as chair of the IRS Subcommittee, and is an active member of the ACOPA Government Affairs Committee.
