Poyner Spruill LLP is pleased to announce that attorney David Long will be honored with the North Carolina State Bar’s John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award.
This award is given to attorneys who have enhanced legal knowledge and education, promoted public confidence in the justice system, and ensured equal access to justice for those facing economic or social barriers through pro bono work. These individuals also consistently demonstrate professional courtesy and act as mentors for others in the legal profession.
Long represents individuals and businesses in a wide range of criminal investigations and cases in state and federal courts in North Carolina and elsewhere, in addition to a civil practice focusing on business litigation. With the exception of two years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina, Long has been a career attorney at Poyner Spruill. Long has served multiple terms on the Board of the Local Bar Association followed by a term as President of the Tenth Judicial District Bar. He served nine years as a North Carolina State Bar Councilor followed by four years on the Disciplinary Hearing Commission. He was Chairman of the Advisory Group for the Eastern District of North Carolina under the Civil Justice Reform Act of 1991. He was a member of the Federal Bar Advisory Council and served two years as Chairman. He served on several Boards including the Inmate Grievance Resolution Board, the Criminal Justice Partnership State Advisory Board and the Innocence Inquiry Commission. Throughout his more than 50 years as an attorney, Long has received countless accolades, including the David W. Daniel Award presented by the Eastern District of North Carolina Chapter of the Federal Bar Association for excellence in the legal community, and the Joseph Branch Professionalism Award, which is the Wake County Bar Association’s highest honor.
“David’s dedication and contributions to the legal profession are admirable,” said Managing Partner Dan Cahill. “David consistently goes above and beyond, demonstrating not only his legal knowledge but also his compassion and integrity. We are proud to have him as part of our team, and this award is a testament to his hard work and dedication.”
Long will be recognized on November 4, 2024.
