Mike McIntyre recently announced at the NC Bar Association Annual Meeting the Youth Leadership Challenge program, which will provide opportunities for civic engagement and community leadership to High School students. McIntyre stated, “It is our hope that this new Youth Leadership Challenge will light a fire in young people to demonstrate how through good citizenship, civic engagement, and dynamic leadership, they can carry the torch forward, challenge themselves and others to discover new solutions to the problems their communities face.”

Mike McIntyre served the 7th Congressional District and our country for eighteen years in the United States House of Representatives from 1997 - 2015. He served on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Armed Services Committee which required extensive travel around the world including several trips on Air Force One. During his Washington years, Mike never forgot where he came from and the 7th district always was his home. In fact he never moved to Washington like some career politicians.

Even before Mike was elected to Congress, he spent countless hours as a school volunteer, helping kids gain a better understanding of our government and the rule of law. He continued that tradition while in office, teaching his popular "Classroom from Congress on Citizenship" and hosting his Annual Youth Leadership Summit to inspire students to give back to their communities. With his retirement from Congress, the Mike McIntyre for Congress Committee has donated $100,000 to the North Carolina Bar Foundation Endowment in his honor to establish the Mike McIntyre Justice Fund.

This new restricted fund in our $11 million endowment will make possible the McIntyre Youth Leadership Challenge which will provide inspiring opportunities for North Carolina high school students and community leadership in the areas of civic engagement.
