Poyner Spruill Welcomes Education Law Practice Group

Additionally, Meeker earns admission to North Carolina Bar

RALEIGH, N.C. — Poyner Spruill LLP, a commercial law firm with offices across the state of North Carolina, is pleased to announce the hiring of four new attorneys and welcome them to the firm. Matt Weiner and Cosmo Zinkow will work out of the Raleigh office, while Nick Tosco and Missy Jaskolka will be based in Charlotte.

Weiner and Tosco come to Poyner Spruill from Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP.

“Poyner Spruill continues to seek opportunities to build upon our reputation of providing consistently excellent legal services,” said Poyner Spruill Managing Partner Dan Cahill. “Each of these attorneys brings unique talents to our firm, and we are excited for Matt, Nick, Missy and Cosmo to help grow our business and meet the evolving needs of our diverse client base. This is a great opportunity to expand the depth of our bench.”

Matt Weiner, who is joining Poyner Spruill as a partner, focuses his practice on financial services clients with an emphasis on creditors’ rights and bankruptcy proceedings. He has a proven track record of working with lenders to navigate bankruptcy, loan restructures and commercial foreclosures across a wide-range of industries. Experience representing clients on bad loans assists him in drafting and finalizing better agreements in his lending practice.

Nick Tosco primarily works in litigation and land use, with a wealth of experience working with municipalities, governmental agencies and individual clients on matters involving zoning, land use, eminent domain and condemnation and other administrative matters. He also has experience as a law clerk with the Charlotte city attorney’s office and as a legislative specialist for the North Carolina League of Municipalities.

Missy Jaskolka brings extensive experience in the financial services arena, including representation of clients in multimillion-dollar transactions. In addition to her legal work, she previously worked in a variety of leadership roles in the financial industry, giving her unique insight into the legal issues her clients face.

Cosmo Zinkow previously spent time at Poyner Spruill as a summer associate. He now joins as a full-time associate with his focus on litigation. During his time as a summer associate with the firm, Cosmo assisted several litigation attorneys in drafting an amicus brief, filed before the Supreme Court of the United States in the case, U.S. v. Microsoft.

In addition to the new hires, Poyner Spruill congratulates Emily Meeker on her recent admission to the North Carolina Bar. Meeker came to Poyner Spruill in 2017 and serves as counsel in the litigation section, with experience working on government-related disputes and eminent domain matters.
