RALEIGH, N.C. — Poyner Spruill LLP, a commercial law firm with offices across North Carolina, is pleased to announce the firm has named Emily Meeker a partner of the firm while also welcoming three new attorneys, one of whom is returning after serving in an in-house counsel role with a healthcare company.

In addition to Meeker being named partner, Matt Bouchard and Ben Buskirk join the firm’s construction group as a partner and associate, respectively, and Brenna Davenport returns to the firm as a partner after having served as associate general counsel at Healthstat, Inc., a North Carolina-based health clinics company.

“We continue to be impressed with Emily’s dedication to the firm and her clients; we are excited to welcome back Brenna to the Poyner Spruill family; and we could not be more pleased to welcome Matt and Ben to the firm – each is a perfect fit for our culture and approach to providing counsel to the business community,” said Poyner Spruill Managing Partner Dan Cahill.

Emily Meeker

Emily’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation with an emphasis on real estate and property-related disputes. She has a successful track record of representing clients in government-related disputes, condemnation cases and land-use matters. Emily also counsels clients on the newly created Opportunity Zones program. She spent six years as a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice with the Attorney General’s Honors Program where she served as lead counsel in a wide range of significant cases, including cases ranging from tort lawsuits to environmental disputes.

Brenna Davenport

Brenna will rejoin the firm’s employee benefits and business law teams in the Charlotte office where she practiced prior to taking an in-house role with Healthstat, Inc. She represents clients in the design, implementation and administration of retirement, welfare, fringe, and executive compensation plans. In addition, she advises small and midsize closely-held corporate clients and nonprofit entities regarding a broad range of corporate transactional matters.

Matt Bouchard

Matt’s construction practice concentrates on guiding clients through the prosecution and defense of payment, defect, extra work, termination, delay, inefficiency, and bond and lien claims. He represents national and regional general contractors, private owners and developers, and suppliers, among others through these complex matters. Matt also is relied upon to counsel clients through legal considerations made throughout the construction process, from negotiating initial contracts to final completion and grand openings.

Ben Buskirk

In the past, Ben has focused his civil litigation practice in construction, commercial litigation, surety law and appellate law; however, with his move to Poyner Spruill he will be focusing exclusively on construction litigation. Ben brings a unique perspective when it comes to construction law as he spent more than 10 years in the construction industry as a construction superintendent and project manager. He is a licensed North Carolina Professional Engineer and is a LEED Accredited Professional.
