The transportation industry is rife with change and challenges that require astute legal representation and an understanding of day-to-day operations. From finding the next generation of qualified truck drivers to auditing intellectual property and managing trademarks, and creating employment policies to defending catastrophic tort cases, we are well equipped to represent transportation companies.
For years we have acted as outside general counsel for a number of trucking enterprises; our experience is varied, and while heavily concentrated in litigation (employment, class action, and liability defense), it also includes work to reduce risk and improve operations.
We have consulted on issues including, but not limited to:
Transportation carrier contracts
- We advise on transportation carrier contracts between companies and their customers. Our experience in this area is primarily related to negotiations of petroleum hauling carrier contracts for a major East Coast petroleum carrier.
Warehouse contracts and related matters
- We are able to consult on contract services at the warehouse level related to unloading and loading, freight running, spotting, drop yard services, and other related matters.
Negotiations with the North Carolina Department of Transportation
- In the event that cargo terminals or shipping facilities are affected by the relocation of a major highway or access road, Poyner Spruill has experience representing a regional trucking firm in negotiations with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to provide adequate access to a terminal that would be affected by the relocation of a major highway and its conversion to a controlled access facility.
