Biography
Laura has extensive experience in the areas of charter schools, teacher licensure, federal and state constitutional law, administrative law, education law, and employment law. After receiving her J.D., cum laude, she clerked for the Honorable late Chief Justice Joe Branch on the North Carolina Supreme Court. She has worked as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Wilmington, practiced in the private sector, and served as General Counsel for the NC School Boards Association. In addition to elementary school, she has taught at the North Carolina Governor’s School, Wake Tech Community College, Meredith College, NC State University, and North Carolina Central University. As Special Deputy AG, she represented and advised the State Board of Education, the Department of Public Instruction, the Charter School Advisory Board, the Textbook Commission, the Governor’s School Board of Governors, and various other boards, commissions, officials, and employees who serve those entities. Laura has litigated in federal and state courts, as well as in the Office of Administrative Hearings.
